Corporation and Start-Up collaboration: OP and Topaasia

Screenshot 2020-4-22 at 12.35.40 Paula Ylisassi works at OP on developing product leadership. Paula is enthusiastic about leadership, the future, innovations and new beginnings that challenge current practices. The spark and the start of the collaboration The spark for the collaboration came from a LinkedIn post by Antti Kiukas, in which he talked about the newly published Change Management deck. Paula was delighted by the connection between a rather serious topic (change management) and gamification. For people, games, play and creativity are natural learning platforms that are still underused in developing business and leadership. - Paula says. The conversation started on LinkedIn, continued with a phone call, and Paula got excited about Topaasia's story. A common tune was found and the experiment was started immediately. It happened fortuitously that a good usage context was found, people got excited, and Topaasia play spread quickly. Through the experiments and experiences, a lot of internal discussion and buzz was generated. In other words, the experiment was started immediately and expanded right away, without unnecessary delays. It delights and bewilders me at the same time how quickly the experiment started and spread. I had various preconceptions about working with corporations, such as "rigid", "slow" and "non-playing" - Topaasia's Jussi says. Why is Topaasia a big deal for a corporation? The big themes that Topaasia can support are the leadership tools of the new era, simplification and trust. 1.We now live in a complex and constantly changing, uncertain environment. Simplification is needed so that the work can be clarified and focused. Topaasia offers help in simplifying and clarifying complex things together, in a structured way. 2. The world of the future is increasingly a world of interactions, encounters between people and networks. Nearly everything today happens in interaction, which cannot and should not be controlled in the same way as before. This world is not led with old tools; new thinking and new tools are needed. New tools, like Topaasia, help perceive things in a new way, which in turn helps envision, think and ultimately act differently. 3. A way to discuss and handle even difficult matters. With Topaasia you get quickly to grips with difficult things: we can talk about trust and leadership under the guise of a playful and gamified approach. It makes the situation more objective. As a facilitator I see that when you enter the conversation through a tool like this, handling the matter itself is easier. For people, games, play and creativity are natural learning platforms that are still underused in developing business and leadership. We have tried Topaasia in many situations, for example in development teams' retros. We have received feedback that, for example, discussion about trust has been generated, and talk within the team that did not exist before. Within an hour it has been possible to create an atmosphere of trust and to talk about difficult and even painful things. That is brilliant. We get inside the team's trust, which serves as the foundation for all development of the work. - Paula continues. Paula and Jussi's tips for start-ups on collaborating with corporations: 1. Stories ignite. Emotions ignite. Sensitivity, authenticity and courage on the sales side, without unnecessary attachment to process, are important so that it is easy for the recipient to get excited. Of course, persistence and initiative are also required to see things through as agreed. And it is worth remembering that even in a corporation, an encounter is from one human to another. 2. Be present and seize the opportunity. You can also be present virtually. For example, many things have come about with Topaasia because a LinkedIn message was seized boldly and with enthusiasm. 3. Come to situations openly, despite any fears and preconceptions you may have about approaching a corporation's representative. Put yourself on the line and dare to be a bit silly at times. That is often how great things get done. Thank you Paula! Get in touch with Paula: LinkedIn Twitter
