Why is calling a stranger exciting?

Why is calling a stranger exciting?

Calling a customer as a first contact is an awfully big part of my work, more precisely, making cold calls. I consider it important, useful, fun and educational. As I understand it, cold calls are not the best, or at least not the sexiest, way to do sales work in 2016. I have come to the conclusion that with this skill set they are nevertheless the fastest way to move things forward. Cold calls are terribly frightening and distressing, which is why I have had the chance to practise ways of turning fear and anxiety into enthusiasm. I have tried many techniques aimed at tricking my own mind, but most have worked more as fear dampeners than as generators of genuine enthusiasm. One technique has generated enthusiasm and even amusement! Below is an example (this is a lead list):

Company:

Person:

Why are they exciting?

Adfg Oy

Pertti Pöne

Because hands down the widest smile I have ever seen!

Burm Oyj

Aino Säki

Because their values resonate pretty strongly with my own worldview

Oyks Oy

Pirjo Kääpä

Because it looks like there is a chance of getting a proper verbal telling-off!

The approach in the example I wrote above, all the way to ending the call, has two stages. 1) Fill in the lead list from right to left by searching for (or stumbling upon) points of contact that spark enthusiasm or a playful feeling 2) When you call through the list, remember to say why you are calling that particular person (read the column: "Why are they exciting?") And so the cold call is no longer a cold call, but a first encounter full of genuine enthusiasm, presence and interest.
