The art of leading together. An interview with Vesa Purokuru, Humap Consulting

Vesa Purokuru is one of the founders of Humap Consulting, a long-time organisational consultant, and a one-man circus artist. Together with Vesa, Topaasia has created a Topaasia game to support shared team leadership and internal development, called Topaasia®: Leading Together. How do you lead together?

In the new era of work, everyone's brains are needed to think about what needs to be done, what is wise, and to learn. An individual's strong self-direction is no longer enough. Leading together is the skill of navigating together with others. Underlying the Leading Together deck is a theory of the team's state called Future landscape. It is based on a theory called the Landscape diagram. Humap's and Topaasia's version is an adaptation of it. © Humap Oy - Future Landscape Agile experiments: Predictability is low and shared understanding is high. The team is able to experiment and learn. Bold renewal: Predictability is low and shared understanding is low. The team must make bold moves to renew itself and move forward. Constructive/challenging conversations: Predictability is high, but shared understanding is low. The team must have conversations to get its shared understanding in order. Maintenance: Predictability is high and shared understanding is high. The team maintains its activity with good practices.

A serious game for navigating together

The Leading Together serious game is a game for having constructive team conversations, locating the most important development points and improving them concretely. It takes about an hour, works with 2-14 players (over 8 people play in pairs) and increases the team's shared understanding and concrete development actions.
